January 2005 Plumbline, Walden Lodge No. 274
Happy New Year! I am hopeful that you all had a wonderful Christmas season. As we begin the new year we must continue to think of those less fortunate than ourselves. I was very pleased to see the good attendance at the December meeting and it is always good to have visitors. My brothers, if you have not regularly attended the communication meetings, I encourage you to start the year off by attending the January 6 meeting. We would love to see your presence. Bro. Chick Davis, Junior Warden, promises a special dinner prior to the communication. At the January meeting we will have the annual Memorial Service which will be conducted by Worshipful Brother Charles Pridmore. Bro. Charles always does an exceptional job with this very important part of Masonry. I also want to name a new committee or two. Make sure that you are in attendance or you may just become the Chair of the committee. Just kidding about the Chairmanship, of course. A big thank you goes to Most Worshipful Bro. G. Kent Elkins for conducting the elections and installations in December. He was assisted by installing marshal Worshipful Bro. Charlie Hendricks. The Childrens Christmas Party went well with very good attendance. Santa was again present and was his usual jolly ole self. Thanks to worshipful Bro. Art Strandemo, Chairman, and the Committee for another job well done. Congratulations and thanks to Worshipful Bro. Kirby Burnett as he has completed an excellent year as 2004 Worshipful Master of Walden Lodge #274. Kirby conducted his duties well, worked diligently on improving attendance, and modeled as well as oversaw good ritual work. Kirby leaves some big shoes to fill (no pun intended). Kirby, hats off to you, my brother. Last but not least, I would like to thank the Craft for electing me as Worshipful Master for 2005. Im both excited and humbled by this opportunity. I am very fortunate to have such a fine line of officers. Our intent is to serve you well, so come out and enjoy yourselves. I am always interested in ways that I can be of better service to you. Let me hear your ideas by phone, e-mail, or in person. My brothers, we will be starting the new year off on a good foot with two candidates for the Entered Apprentice degree. The degree will be on our Business Meeting on February 3rd. Brother Chick Davis, Junior Warden, will be in charge of the degree. This will be Bro. Daviss first time sitting in the East. Lets attend and show our support. Please dont forget to visit Walden Lodge #274 on the internet. Albert Pike Fraternally and sincerely, Mel Sinclair, Worshipful Master
Greetings Brothers, A new year begins and a new class of officers has taken their stations and is ready to serve you. I am writing this entry for the Plumb Line on the night before our annual Christmas party for the kids. I am eagerly anticipating seeing the shiny faces and smiles on their faces as they see Santa. Im sure some of them will be seeing Santa for the first time, and do they have a great Santa to see! The past year was a trying one for many of us. We saw the war in Iraq, with all its horrors played out on our televisions and computer screens. We watched the continuing rise of oil and gas prices take a larger bite out of our budgets. We saw the end of an era in the Middle East with the passing of Yasser Arafat, and a new one beginning with free elections for the first time ever in Afghanistan. The most frightening revelation of a North Korea armed with nuclear weapons; Clemson losing to Duke. Yet not all news was gloom and doom. We have seen the best in ourselves, and what makes America best. We participated in our electoral process, exercising our Constitutional right to select who our leaders will be. While the process might seem contentious, the ballot box, and not the bullet, decides who steers the ship called America. I hope that this edition of the Plumb Line finds you, and your family well. I look forward to seeing you at our regular communication in January. Sincerely, and fraternally Chris Grantham, Senior Warden
