February 2005 Plumbline, Walden Lodge No. 274
Brethren: For those who might have missed our January Communication meeting, we missed you and hope that you will join us February 3rd. . Due to a scheduling conflict with our district Instructional Meeting, the Entered Apprentice Degree is being rescheduled for our February Business meeting. We should have two candidates. Brother Chick Davis, JW, is in charge of the degree. I know that you will want to attend and support Bro. Davis. It would be great to win the high attendance award for the 18th Masonic District Instructional meeting on January 20. Please plan to attend. The meeting is being held at the Greenville Scottish Rite Temple. I wish to thank Worshipful Bro. Charles Pridmore for providing us with a wonderful memorial service at our January meeting. This special service and our remembrance of those who have gone before us is a good way to begin our new Masonic year. Thanks Bro. Pridmore and also thanks to our Chaplain, Worshipful Brother Malcolm Carmichael who assisted. Plans are underway for an 18th Masonic District Multi-Lodge Degree on Saturday, March 12th. See comments from the West in this Plumbline. We’ll keep you informed. Walden is planning a Master Mason breakfast degree in April. There will be more details later. The year 2008 will be a special year for Walden as we celebrate our 100th anniversary. I have appointed our Senior Warden, Brother Chris Grantham as Chairman of the Committee. He will be asking for assistance and I encourage all of our brethren to help as much as possible. There are those who may not attend regularly but are reading this article. If you have information, stories, photos, etc., to share, please talk with Bro. Grantham or one of the officers. Your memories are important to share with the Craft. My Brothers, other plans are underway to increase the visibility of our fraternity and to encourage better attendance. If you have ideas along these lines, please call or write to me or any of the officers as we continue to work for you. On a very serious note, I would like to create a telephone list of those brothers who can be called upon on short notice to attend Masonic Funerals. This is a very important responsibility and to have good support in this area is vital. If you are willing to have your name on this list, even though you may not be able to attend all funerals, it would be most helpful. Contact Earl Hudgens, Malcolm Carmichael, or me. Please don’t forget to visit Walden Lodge #274 on the internet. Greetings Brothers, Our first meeting of 2005 is behind us and your officers are preparing for not only our second meeting of the year, but also a First Degree. We will be initiating two candidates. Please make plans to attend and help us welcome them into the fraternity. As I write this article, we are anticipating a second degree in March during an 18th District multi-lodge degree. This will be a one-day degree, with different lodges putting on all 3 degrees in a single day. I will do my best to keep you informed and up to date as to the details as they become available, by providing the information to WB Sinclair for inclusion on Walden’s web site www.mastermason.com/walden274. WB Pridmore conducted our annual memorial service for the brothers who have preceded us to the celestial lodge above. He did his usual wonderful job and I would like to again offer him my thanks. It was also nice to see absent faces return to the lodge. The Worshipful Master has asked me to chair the committee for our centennial celebration in 2008. One of the tasks for the committee is to begin working on a history of the lodge. I am asking you to look around for lodge photographs, and memorabilia to get this kicked off. The committee will also be contacting our members for their stories, and perspectives on our first hundred years. The time will fast be upon us brothers, so your help is urgently requested. Sincerely, and fraternally Chris Grantham Senior Warden
