May 2006 Plumbline, Walden Lodge No. 274
Greetings Brothers, By the time you read this, Walden will have had a candidate go through his first degree. Your officers are practicing hard to make sure that we keep up the tradition of fine work for which Walden is known. We have a wonderful meeting scheduled for you at our May meeting. We will have WB Jim Forrester give a presentation on the South Carolina Museum and Library of Confederate History. There is a special meal planned, so make your plans to attend. The date for the meeting is May 1st. We will also be having a second degree in May, tentatively scheduled for May 18th. I would also like to remind you about the upcoming movie, “The Da Vinci Code”. This is based on Dan Brown’s book of the same name. While it is purely fictional in nature, it is full of references to Masonry and the Knights Templar. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss the movie’s fictions against what Masonry is truly about: taking a good man, and making him a better one. This movie affords us a good opportunity to promote our fraternity. Brothers, last but not least is the status of our lodge funds. Those of you who were present when the audit report was read saw in detail the rapid dwindling of our benevolent fund. One way to replenish this fund is through the Penny-a-Day contribution when you send in your dues. I encourage you to send in whatever you can. If you are a life member, please send in what you can and mark it for the benevolent fund. It is from this fund that we pay for the children’s Christmas party, and the gift certificates to our widows each year. This is the fund that will assist a fallen brother. Its growth is wholly dependent on you. I look forward to meeting with you in May, and serving the craft. Sincerely, and fraternally, Chris Grantham Worshipful Master “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety” – Benjamin Franklin
My Brothers: May is upon us. Just as the new life of spring appears in our backyards and fields, a new Masonic life begins in our Lodge. We have a new candidate “going as all others have gone before him”. Come to your Lodge and support our work and welcome our newly made Brother. Give him encouragement for the journey he is about to embark on, and meet old friends. When you read this, he will have made his first step toward becoming a Master Mason; be there for his second and third step to wish him well. Fraternally, Chick Davis Senior Warden
My Brothers, WOW! The first third of this year has already passed. Where does the time go? Brothers, I am looking forward to the May meeting and the presentation that Worshipful Brother Forrester is preparing for us. It should be both enjoyable and enlightening. I am planning a special meal for that evening and I can’t wait to see you all there. Sincerely, Bernie Wilber Junior Warden
